Many people vividly recall the exact moment they heard that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968, while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis Tennessee. 

But did you know that Dr. King was nearly stabbed to death while visiting New York City in 1958?
