Several years ago, a business mentor of mine named Bill Hendrich (who is an Executive Vice President for Cox Media Group) made a thought provoking statement to me that stuck. He said, "Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up." It resonated because it was a simple truth. Later, God invoked the revelation to me that this same principle is revealed in Hebrews 12:1 which states, "let us run with patience the race that is set before us."
How do you run with patience? How do you slow down to speed up? Both sound like contradictions. Yet, there is no contradiction at all. When you slow down for the purpose of wisdom and understanding, you avoid mistakes and missteps that would have used up valuable time. You may have slowed down to obtain the needed wisdom but you still arrived at your destination faster because you avoided the mistakes and missteps that are often made.
That is exactly how we run our race with patience. We take the time we need to properly prepare for the next level we are going toward. Slow down and get wisdom and in all your getting of wisdom secure the understanding it takes to use that wisdom daily. You will be surprised by how equipped you are when you arrive at your destination!
Set yourself up for the win!
