It is All About the Heart part 2: Good vs. Evil

It is All About the Heart part 2: Good vs. Evil

Can you define what good is? Can you define what evil is? Man has tried to define what is good based on what God's principles are. However, man has a difficult time identifying good and evil with consistency because he is unaware or ignorant of men's motives (even his own personal motives) that taint the truth. Motives that become selfish. Motives that serve the appetite of greed and lust. While trying to make the outward appearance of his ambitions look righteous and justified, the inside of that man may be filled with self aggrandizement and focused on the accumulation of wealth at the pain and expense of the weak and those who are defenseless. Jesus identified this kind of behavior in Matthew chapter 23:

Matthew 23:25-26 KJVS "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also."

Psalm 51 and Proverbs 16 both point to being clean on the inside. The heart, the motives - the inside of a man being clean.

Psalm 51:10 KJVS "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."

Proverbs 16:2 NIV "All a person's ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord."

Mark chapter 7 versus 21 through 23 drive right to the source of where evil comes from. It goes right to the core of man. Man's heart and spiritual condition are at the core of the evil he produces.

Mark 7:21-23 KJVS "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."

Yet, good comes from this same faucet called the heart. The first half of Matthew 12 verse 35 says it plainly: "A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things."

2 Corinthians 9:9 AMP describes the outpouring of a good hearted person in this way: "As it is written, He [the benevolent person] scatters abroad; He gives to the poor; His deeds of justice and goodness and kindness and benevolence will go on and endure forever!"

The things we suffer from as a society are all issues of the heart. If we can come to act on that understanding, any change for the better that has seemed out of reach would instantly become possible.
