All of our words and actions start as thoughts. Thoughts originate in our hearts. If we want to have hearts that release the right thoughts into our minds and spirits, we need to care for and do regular checkups on our hearts. The heart is what makes us strive after righteousness and justice no matter the pain or cost. When we do something out of convenience, it often has no cost. Doing the right thing in the midst of opposition always has a cost.
Yet, I have found that the biggest rewards are attached to the things that cost us. You must have a willing heart because the cost is sometimes very high. There are sacrifices along this type of journey. When I find myself challenged in making sure my heart is driving my willingness and my actions, I think on Proverbs 4:23 (KJVS) "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." Or, Luke 6:45 (KJVS) "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh." Additionally, I think of Mark 7:21-23 (KJVS) "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."
Our hearts are at the core of every good or evil action we take. If you want to make permanent change in your life, regularly examine and continually work on your heart (your core spiritual being). Your heart will be the core of everything you do that has eternal value.
